Preview to Carmen: What Makes a Great Melody?

Featured selections from the opera Carmen: Seguidilla, Danse Boheme, The Card Aria & The Toreador Song
Additional selections to include Madamina (Leporello’s Catalog Aria) from Don Giovanni, O mio babbino caro from Gianni Schicchi, Ah! Je veux vivre from Romeo and Juliet, Voi che sapete from Marriage of Figaro and Send in the Clowns from A Little Night Music.
Evenings with the Maestro host, Mark Sforzini, will briefly discuss his concepts of what makes a great melody and with the help of the other performers elaborate with short demonstrations prior to the performance of each selection.
This final Evenings with the Maestro is not to be missed. But, don’t worry! Evenings with the Maestro will continue in our Fifth Season beginning September 2010.
Audience capacity limited to 150 people.
Each of these first Thursday of the month evenings will address a different theme and will include both a discussion of musical ideas and live performances by St. Petersburg Opera artists. The programs are designed to enhance your understanding of opera and of music in general and will last approximately 90 minutes. St. Petersburg Opera Artistic Director, Mark Sforzini, will lead the series.
