Melissa Misener, a Tampa native, is thrilled to be performing with the St. Petersburg Opera Company once again. Melissa participated in the Emerging Artist program, covering the role of “Dorabella” in the January 2010 production of Cosi Fan Tutte, and returned in June to sing in the chorus for Carmen. In August 2010 Melissa will be singing the role of “Dr. Blind” in the South Florida Lyric Opera Company in their season’s premier production of Die Fledermaus. Melissa sings regularly as a section leader with Opera Tampa under the direction of Anton Coppola, and was featured in the 2009 production of Suor Angelica as “La Conversa”.
Other performances with Opera Tampa include Faust, Il Trovatore, Sacco & Vansetti, La Boheme, Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor and La Rondine. Melissa enjoyed playing the role of “Vicki” in MAD Theatre’s 2008 production of The Full Monty. She currently holds the position of Mezzo-Soprano Soloist for St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Tampa. Melissa sings regularly as a classical soloist throughout the Tampa Bay area, in works including Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Mendelssohn’s Elijah & St. Paul Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, Saint-Seans’ Christmas Oratorio, and many more.
She is an alumnus of the Voice Experience program with Sherrill Milnes. While studying voice performance at the University of Central Florida, Melissa sang excerpts of roles such as “Pamina” in Die Zauberflute, “Susanna” Le Nozze di Figaro, and “Rosalinda” in Die Fledermaus, under the direction of Robert Swedburg of the Orlando Opera Company.
