On Saturday, December 16, 2006, at 8 P.M., opera artists from the cast of Die Fledermaus will perform highlights of the opera at the Bella Brava restaurant in downtown St. Petersburg (515 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL 33701 tel: 727.895.5515).

Featured selections will include Adele’s Laughing Song, Czardas, and the famous Watch Duet. Join the artists in a toast to King Champagne when they perform Champagne’s Delicious Bubbles.

The performance will be on the mezzanine of Bella Brava. If you wish to be seated near the performance, reservations are recommend.

The performance will be led by Mark Sforzini, Artistic Director of Opera for the Palladium Theater and accompanied by Hilton Kean Jones.

Champagne’s Delicious Bubbles

Candice Hoyes, a native Floridian, is delighted to make her Palladium Opera debut in Die Fledermaus. Ms. Hoyes began this year at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, singing Zerlina from Mozart’s Don Giovanni in concert with Opera Eurydice, conducted by Maestro Glen Cortese. Her roles performed include the Sandman from Hansel and Gretel and Susanna from Le Nozze di Figaro. As a young artist, she is developing the roles of Morgana (Alcina), Despina (Così Fan Tutte) and Giulietta (I Capuleti ed I Montecchi). Ms. Hoyes is the second place winner of the 2006 Paul Robeson Vocal Competition, and a 2005 winner of the Westminster Voice Scholarship Competition. Ms. Hoyes is equally at home in the oratorio and art song repertoires. Last spring, she was a soloist in Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle with the Westminster Symphonic Choir, conducted by Maestro Timothy Brown. She is a sponsored recitalist in Columbia University's 2006 Rabi-Warner Concert Series and she is engaged in spring 2007 to perform a program of art songs with legendary mezzo-soprano Barbara Conrad at the historic Lincoln Theater in Washington, D.C. Ms. Hoyes is a graduate of Harvard University and receives her Masters in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College at Rider University this spring. She currently resides with her husband in New York City.
 
Brianne Joy Sura -- mezzo-soprano, is a graduate of the Master of Music program at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she performed a variety of roles in both opera scenes and fully staged operas including; Mother Jeanne in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Antonia in Tales of Hoffman, and Meg in Little Women. Brianne recently joined the Nashville Opera as one of the company’s four Mary Ragland Young Artists and sang the roles of Leila in Iolanthe, Handmaiden in Turandot, and Mother and Granny in Little Red’s Most Unusual Day. Previously she joined the La Musica Lirica scenes program in Urbania, Italy and was seen as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly and Dame Quickly in Falstaff. In addition to the Nashville Opera Company and La Musica Lirica, Brianne has performed with the Milwaukee Opera Theatre, the Madison Opera Company, the Milwaukee Florentine Opera Company, and Music By the Lake Festival where she was most recently seen as Gretchen in the summer production of The Student Prince. In the spring, Brianne will sing the role of Dorabella for Milwaukee Opera Theatre's production of Cosi fan tutte as well as a witch in the Miwaukee Florentine's Macbeth.
 
Leila Bowie -- Leila Bowie, soprano, is a graduate from the University of South Florida holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Studies. She has been studying with Mr. Jerald Reynolds in Tampa since 2000. At the University of South Florida, she performed such roles as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Zerbina in La Serva Padrona, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, and Erste Dame in Die Zauberflote, under the direction of Theresa D’Aiuto Andrasy. In addition, she participated in “Opera in the Ozarks”, where she performed the role of Diana in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, and Irene in the American premiere of Rautavaara's The House of the Sun. Recently, in July 2006, she studied with the Spoleto Vocal Arts Symposia in Spoleto, Italy. There she studied with such teachers as Nico and Carol Castel and Enza Ferrari. Leila is currently applying to graduate schools with plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance.
 
Jacob Pence -- returning for his second appearance as a cover artist with the Palladium Theatre, was engaged earlier this summer in the Palladium's June 2006 production of Il Barbiere di Siviliga in a principle role and as a chorus member. In addition to his work with the Palladium, Mr. Pence also has participated in cover work with the Crested Butte Music Festival in Crested Butte Colorado during July of 2006. Outside of his cover work, Mr. Pence is a full time student at the University of Evansville in Evansville IN and is active in operatic productions and large choral works which are performed at the University. While residing in Evansville Mr. Pence is active with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra as a chorus member on select occasions. Mr. Pence participated in the inaugural class of the Kentucky Opera's Visions program, in which young artists from the Kentucky area are selected to compose an opera surrounding the life of an important Louisville native. Currently Mr. Pence is currently a senior at the University of Evansville, and is a student of Jon Truitt.
 
Stephen Paul Mollica- currently pursuing a Masters in vocal performance at the University of South Florida, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Music in 2003. During his undergraduate studies, he performed such roles as Tamino in The Magic Flute, Prunier in La Rondine and Alfred in Die Fledermaus.
 
John Wenzel – Born in Evansville, IN, attended college at the University of Evansville, where he is a senior, pursuing a BM in performance; student of Dr. Jon Truitt for four years. He had his professional stage debut in his performance in Dido and Aeneas as Aeneas and Sorcerer (UE). He has performed in The Beggar’s Opera as MacHeath (UE) and in Tartuffe as Valère (UE).
 
Jeffrey Bakken – Jeff is a Senior at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where he is studying Vocal Music Performance. He has performed roles such as Betto in Gianni Schicci and Lucas in The Student Prince. This is Jeff’s first show at the Palladium.
